The symptoms of acromegaly are wide ranging, and may vary from person to person. They also tend to develop very gradually over time.
The most common symptoms include:1
- Enlarged or swollen hands and feet
- Facial features becoming more prominent, such as your nose and lips and growth of your lower jaw, brow and nose, or changes in the spacing of your teeth
- Enlarged or swollen tongue
- More skin tags on your skin
- Excessive sweating
- Joint pain
- Tiredness and weakness
- Difficulty sleeping, excessive snoring or sleep apnea (a condition in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts throughout the night)
- Headaches
- Blurred or reduced vision
- Loss of sex drive
- Abnormal periods (in women)
- Erectile dysfunction (in men)
If you notice changes in how you feel, even if it is not listed as a symptom here, you should mention it to your healthcare professional at your next appointment.
